It’s an original idea. Just like it’s not an original idea to try and put high OBP guys at the top of the lineup instead of just putting your fastest guys up there. Just like it’s not an original idea to say that bunting is generally a bad idea (unless one run wins it or the pitcher is up). That many (not all) managers manage this way is a testament to how slow baseball can be to adapt. Hell I’m shocked Hurdle was open to doing defensive shifts given how backwards Hurdle is about almost everything else.

I DO hold veterans to a different standard based on FACTS.
And I supported my criticism of Cutch and Walker with FACTS.
It was not that long ago fans on DK’s blog and elsewhere wanted to send Marte down to Indy because of his “attitude” and struggles both in the field and at the plate. These are young men – they do not come to the majors fully developed in most cases – yes there are exceptions – but they are exceptions – you get ONE Mike Trout every 10 years or so if you are lucky. Look at Puig – yes he made a great play – but he has struggled for long stretches these last year or so – and I recall many wanted to crown him as the best player in baseball part way through his first year.
