HE scored 22 two years ago as well. He could really be one of those guys that just needs a change of scenery. He’s been a good player most of his career.

I don’t believe I ever mentioned Bennett but since you brought him up…Unless he becomes a serious NHL ready body than he’s hardly worth it. He doesn’t have much of any compete level and the kid gets injured way too much. He’s been given chances and hasn’t succeeded. I’m not saying give up on him, but he should probably be in Wilkes-Barre. If he weren’t afraid of getting hit and injured he could probably be kept up here because he has talent. I like Bennett, I really do. He just has not done well and hasn’t lived up to what they expected him to be.

We don’t need Rutherford to become Shero 2.0. Hopefully he learned from his mistakes in Carolina and not drop a ton of money for a player (ala Semin).

Keep all the young guys, get one or two role players and be set from there. I honestly would rather see what guys like Kapanen and Sundqvist can do than bringing a guy like Semin in.

The penguins said they “want top 6 talent to play with sid or geno.” Semin fits that description to a T, there is no denying he has an insane amount of talent. Also the benefit to signing semin to a contract like that is it gives the penguins some time and won’t feel pressured into some big trade for a top 6, like kessel. It would allow them to step back and perhaps look for a better hockey trade rather than going for a splash trade, where certainly we’d probably lose out.

I believe he played well that season, which tantalized Rutherford & led to the 5-year deal. Since then, Semin has been un-productive. So, for 1 year, it’s worth a shot as he might be very motivated, but afterward – move on.
