As a Robert Morris alum, I’m looking forward to seeing some consistent coverage of the hoops and hockey programs. Given the success those teams have had over the past few years, it’s good to see that DKoPS has added some quality staffers to give the Colonials the coverage they deserve.

DK,
For people on the fence about subscribing or not (currently I do not subscribe), you do yourself a disservice by making the rest of this story (Matt’s introduction as another full-time reporter) after the introductory paragraph unavailable. To make a fully informed decision on whether to subscribe, I would like to know who the new writer is, his background, what he’ll be covering, etc.

As a non subscriber, I’m not sure my two cents worth has any currency, but, yes, you do need college coverage. The biggest sports story in Pittsburgh since the first of the year — Pitt’s remaking the athletic department with a new Chancellor, incompetent AD finally fired, new AD, new football coach, etc. — has been hardly noticed by your site.

Peter: All material here is available to anyone for two views per month, so this was available to anyone, as I see it, except those who would be very hard to pursue for a subscription.

Regarding colleges: A conscious decision was made after Pitt basketball to back off colleges until we had a real plan. That was made known to readers.

Regarding Pitt: I wouldn’t rank the changing of AD among the top 10 local sports stories in 2015, though it absolutely would have been covered under our current plan.

Anyone else finding the style to be a bit jarring, of having an accompanying pic at the top of a piece instead of below the headline inside the story?

THE SCROLL can get a bit disorienting and you can lose track of what goes with what.

Benstonium and Friday Insider, for example, are essentially a run-on that go right into each other.

Welcome, Matt. Not a fan of college sports, but super excited for the numbers stuff. Here’s one vote against the “Geekery” title. I know it’s in fun, but I think the word “geek” still has too much of a negative connotation, and even though I’m at an age where I should go all luddite and scorn all the new statistical analysis…I love that stuff!

As DK commented below, PSU hockey is certainly on our radar. Nittany Lions are making some noise in D-I pucks. Please don’t mistake lack of game coverage with lack of coverage overall.
