This is all great news. Now for the bad news, Letang out indefinitely… I think Flower should have skipped this game in protest and show solidarity with the team. The fact is that no suspension will be long enough for Rinaldo. That type of play is unacceptable and the NHL perpetuates it. It was apparent Crosby has an injury watching him in that Blackhawks game. The shootout goal he was skating gingerly and his stick handling looked like he had hands like Thing from the Fantastic 4.

Sid has went when he was not playing in the past as a good solider. But this year his request to decline should come with a 2014 Playoff highlight video with him getting mugged with no penalties. Plus a polite NO THANKS and Forget my number for ANY future hyping of the league.

bpn8pitt – I’m sorry, I just don’t understand how the all-star game has anything to do with filling the stands for struggling franchises at all. Do you really think the attendance at Florida games is going to go up because of a great All-Star game in Columbus? I sure don’t. As for promoting the league through the All-Star games, that’s a bunch of crap. I don’t know a single non-hockey fan who is excited to see the All-Star game. Actually, I barely know any hockey fans excited about the All-Star game. Like the Pro Bowl in football, the All-Star game is more for the players than the fans. It’s an experience for them.

I think fan voting killed the All-Star game as well as having a rep from each team. That made the game completely meaningless, compared to old days when considered an honor, but meaningless game. GM’s and maybe some NHL writers should select the All-Star game. Make it East vs West. Winner gets a $$bonus. Win a skills contest – $$Bonus or Car.

Dejan, for as much as the league and opposing fans have “appreciated” Sid, I think the opt for rest is a prudent move. Not to be profane, but “eff them”. Everyone hates Sid anyway, there seemingly is nothing he can do to change this. I never seen a superstar, even Tom Brady so despised within a league for really no good reason.
