Column: Blown call only part of the puzzle

Patrice Bergeron celebrates his overtime goal Wednesday in front of Simon Despres and Marc-Andre Fleury. — GETTY
The problem wasn’t that the NHL’s replay room got the call wrong.
And I know that’s all anyone will want to discuss following the Penguins’ 3-2 overtime loss to the Bruins on a richly controversial goal by Patrice Bergeron that had the crowd at Consol Energy Center on the cusp of storming the ice, so I’ll start right there and save the rest for later.
The problem wasn’t the call. Sure, the replays showed Bergeron deflected Milan Lucic’s flick to the net with a stick blade that was over his head. Sure, Bergeron stands 6 feet 1, and the crossbar stands 4 feet. Sure, there’s no way Bergeron can pull that off legally unless someone had sliced him in half with a Ginsu knife.
