The iPhone and iPad app for this site are available right now in Apple’s iTunes Store. It’s free, and your subscription here carries over there. I’ve created a special page with instructions.
We already had, of course, our Android app on Google Play.
Suggestion for offline content: rather than requiring opening the app and each new post while online to download the content for offline viewing, the ideal implementation would be background downloading of new content with an option to allow/disable background downloading.
When you put up your first comment on the app, if the name that shows is NOT the one you want, email us with your preference. We'll change it permanently. But the comment must go up first -- FROM THE APP -- or we've got nothing to change.
Congrats on both apps DK!
.
I've been pestering both my brother and father for months to sign up and as of yesterday I'm 1 for 2 with the second almost there (hoping the iPod app pushes him to sign up).
But what's more important for myself is the question of when the Flip-Phone App is going to come out!?!?
.
An article might take 2 hours to load on my phone but at least I'd feel part of these new developments.
.
Plus the site would probably look wonderful on a 3 1/2" screen.
Testing department info:
- I prefer to use my iPhone in portrait orientation and I can't do that with the app.
- comment font doesn't resize with the column/article font (which means I need my glasses)
- I'm not yet sure how I feel about having to push a button to load the comments.
- overall, I like it very much. Works smoothly and looks great. Haven't seen notifications work yet as I downloaded late tonight.
Couple things. I can't see where/if I'm signed in. You could tap on the little head on the web version and my name came up. Don't see how to do that here.
Finally being able to rotate to landscape would be nice (as you can on web version).
Otherwise very nice layout. Well done.
Love the quick access to articles, but no landscape mode and the current state of comments will keep me using the website, which quite frankly is pretty great already. My biggest issues with comments is the sort order - I have to click the show more comments button repeatedly to get to the start of the thread - and the lack of nesting.
Well done, DK. Very professional app. I would agree with others, though, that the inability to reply to comments and to see which comments are in response to others severely hampers the experience.
